Mr R Wilson MB BCh BAO FCEM Dip MED Tox - Consultant in Emergency Medicine. Richard has worked as a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at the Royal Victoria Hospital and Regional Trauma Centre for over 12 years. His daily clinical work involves managing patients across the spectrum of illness and injury in Emergency Medicine. Richard served as the Vice President (NI) for the Royal College of Emergency Medicine from 2013 to 2016. Clinical interests include trauma management.

Mr Phillip O'Connor


Mr. O'Connor currently works as a consultant in Accident & Emergency And Intensive Care Medicine at the Regional Trauma Unit in the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast. He is a registered specialist with the General Medical Council in both Emergency Medicine and Intensive Care Medicine, and is currently one of the few consultants on the island of Ireland practising in both these specialties simultaneously.

Mr. O'Connor's routine clinical work involves the care of minor and major trauma resulting from road traffic collisions and personal injury. Also, due to his unique training, Mr.O'Connor has a special interest in the Emergency Department management of the critically ill patient.

Mr. O'Connor will prepare medical reports with regard to personal injury claims and expert medical reports relating to the field of A&E and the Care of the Critically Ill patient.

Dr Russell E. McLaughlin MB FRCSI FCEM MMedSci CFEU - Consultant in Emergency Medicine.


Russell is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine based at the Emergency Department of the Royal Victoria Hospital which serves as the Regional Trauma Unit. Russell graduated from QUB in 1995 and has been a Consultant since 2004. In his clinical role he has expertise in treating and assessing patients within the whole spectrum of acute illness and injury, including the victims of road collisions. He has a sub-specialty interest in Emergency Ultrasound with a recognised qualification in Emergency Ultrasound from The College of Emergency Medicine and has co-authored one of the leading medical texts on this matter. He also is a Consultant on the Northern Ireland Helicopter Emergency Medical Service.

Russell's non NHS work includes the assessment of patients for the preparation of medical reports with regard to personal injury claims and the preparation of Expert Witness reports with regard to medical negligence cases within the field of Emergency Medicine.

Medicolegal appointments can be booked via his practice manager, Mrs Vivienne Hastings and reports are usually returned within 10 days of the consultation.

Peter Shortt

Peter graduated for the University of Glasgow in 1999. Following training in Scotland and N Ireland Peter has been a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast since 2010.

Peter has an interest in medical education, toxicology and trauma. Peter is an examiner for the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (London) and lead for Emergency Medicine training in the Belfast Trust.

Peter is happy to review patients and prepare medicolegal reports for personal injury claims. Expert reports can also be provided for negligence claims arising within the field of Emergency Medicine.
