
Dr Michael Stafford is a consultant anaesthetist, with a specialist interest in chronic pain management. He has been a consultant at the Ulster Hospital, Dundonald, since January 2005.
I graduated from Queen’s University in 1993 and entered anaesthesia training in 1995. I became a fellow of the Irish College of Anaesthesiologists in 1998 and completed higher training in anaesthesia in 2003. I was awarded my MD in 2004.
After completing my anaesthetic training, I won a fellowship in chronic pain management, based at the Wasser Pain Management Centre, Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto. At the end of this fellowship, I returned to Northern Ireland and was appointed as a consultant at the Ulster Hospital, Belfast. I was awarded my MD in 2004 and became a follow of the faculty of pain management at the Irish College of Anaesthesiologists in 2008.
My anaesthetic interests include plastic surgery, gynae, orthopaedics, general surgery and regional anaesthesia
My interests in chronic pain include management of spinal pain, sciatica, headache, facial pain and  fibromyalgia.
I also provide a specialist medical-legal service for courts in the area of chronic pain. I have been preparing expert witness reports since 2012 and I have prepared reports on behalf of plaintiff and defendant
