Dr Younge has 20 years’ experience of providing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), including CBT supervision and training of multi-disciplinary healthcare professionals, and welcomes referrals for adult patients with a diagnosis of depression; specific anxiety disorders such as panic disorder, phobias, social anxiety disorder, health anxiety or generalised anxiety disorder; obsessive compulsive disorder; post-traumatic stress disorder; chronic pain management or weight loss maintenance for treatment with CBT.
Dr Younge qualified from Queen’s University Medical School, Belfast in 1996 and has over 25 years’ experience in psychiatry, mainly with older adults. She has completed formal postgraduate training in CBT in 2006-8 and was awarded MSc Specialist Cognitive Therapy, with distinction, in 2011, Ulster University. She is an accredited practitioner with the British Association of Cognitive and Behavioural Psychotherapies (BABCP), which is the lead professional organisation for CBT in the UK.
Dr Younge has published research on cognitive therapy and co-authored a CBT textbook with colleagues at QUB, where she provided Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma and MSc training, supervision and assessment in CBT for doctors, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists and counsellors for 9 years, helping to develop the first BABCP accredited course in Ireland. She has also provided supervision for postgraduate CBT training as an Honorary Clinical Teaching Fellow at University College, London and has provided CBT training nationally and internationally. She was Honorary Secretary of the IABCP (Irish branch of BABCP) from 2016-19. Dr Younge has developed the only dedicated NHS CBT service specifically for older people in Northern Ireland, which was recognised for its outcomes as a finalist in the Trust Chairman’s Awards and first poster prize at the University of Ulster’s Psychotherapy Conference in 2019. She is a Clinical Facilitator at the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency.
Dr Younge has also completed Institute of Leadership and Management Level 5 Coaching and Mentoring and provides individual or team coaching and mentoring for healthcare professionals in the NHS.
