Sports Psychiatry
Dr Gary Woods is available for the psychiatric assessment and treatment of athletes following receipt of a General Practice or Sports Medicine referral. Please contact 07788 737318 with any appointment enquiries.
Dr Woods has a passion for sport and holds a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology. He has been an active member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Sport and Exercise Psychiatry special interest group (SEPSIG) since its inception in 2016 and a Fellow of the Irish Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine (FSEM) since 2020. He is a NHS Consultant community psychiatrist at the Ulster Hospital within the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust (SET) and is present on the General Medical Council’s Specialist Register, possessing an endorsement in liaison psychiatry. He has extensive experience in a variety of conditions including depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders and ADHD.
Dr Woods maintains additional interests in research and medical training. He is SET lead for the Northern Ireland Clinical Research Network’s (NICRN) Mental Health clinical management group. He has completed a second Master’s degree in Clinical Education and is an honorary lecturer with Queen’s University Belfast, as well as undergraduate clinical lead for psychiatry within the Ulster Hospital.
