Dr Gary Wright BSc (Hons) MD FRCP FRCPI FRCPE is a Consultant Rheumatologist at the Royal Victoria Hospital Belfastand Musgrave Park Hospital Belfast. He trained in Belfast and Nottingham and is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Queens University Belfast. Dr Wright is immediate past President of the Irish Society For Rheumatology.
His research interests include the genetics of rheumatic disease, osteoarthritis, early diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory arthritis, biological therapies for rheumatic disease and musculoskeletal ultrasound in rheumatic disorders.
Dr Wright provides a diagnostic and management service for all acute and chronic rheumatology conditions including joint pain and soft tissue problems, all forms of inflammatory arthritis including rheumatoid arthritis, gout and crystal disease, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, autoimmune and connective tissue diseases such as lupus. He also provides a diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound service for rheumatology patients. He has more 50 publications in peer reviewed journals relating to all aspects of rheumatic disorders..
Dr Wright provides a full musculoskeletal and rheumatology service including:
- A diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound service for inflammatory arthritis,
osteoarthritis, gout and soft tissue rheumatic disorders - Joint and soft tissue ultrasound guided injection clinic.
- Early inflammatory arthritis clinic.
Dr Wright provides continuing care, education and monitoring for patients with chronic or long term rheumatic disorders assisted by Rheumatology Nurse Specialist Anne Quinn RGN BSc(Hons).
Dr Wright is frequently instructed by solicitors and agencies in medico-legal cases to act as expert witness to The Court for defendant (40%) and claimant (60%). Most of this work relates to trauma, occupation-induced musculoskeletal problems and chronic pain disorders, including Fibromyalgia.
